SiteMap | RecentChanges | Preferences | UploadFile | Help

Hi everyone,

Hanbing was nice enough to help me setting up this wikipage where we can upload material and collect information for the database. I will leave his instrictions below so that those of you who are new to wiki like me will know what to do. As for the structure of the wiki, we could check out the old HDC-Internship wiki which I told you about. Here is the link:

HDC Internship Program

So from now on...everyone is free and welcome to edit. Have fun:-).

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

- Area you worked in: Linux Clusters, Web Servers, Scientific Modeling
- Impact on your professional development:
Brilliant. Very few people had an international research "experience"/internship on their resume around the time we did interviews with companies. You can have the interviewer rapt in amazement at the kind of work you've done and the addition to your knowledge base is substantial.

- Principal difficulty experienced:
Spanish. Lucky for me most of the source code that had to be written and explained to others was in english. This wasnt really such a problem since i took this up as a challenge to learn atleast basic/broken spanish in the month that i spent there.

- Paid : Nope. Didnt expect payment even. I was more interested in getting some concrete research done, rather than looking to earn a few bucks. The MF did great by funding most of the trip.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INTERNSHIP CANDIDATE REQUIRED

- Area of expertise: strong coding skills and ability to do research independently.

LOGISTICAL PLANNING

- Any special form required:
stamped certificates..but i dont see the point in recording this information..since these visa requirements keep fluctuating from time to time. If i was a potential candidate leaving for an internship, i'd rather speak to my local travel agent...well..anyways.

COMMENTS

The institute is beautifully situated in the UFRO Campus. Heinrich von Baer used to be member of the Melton Foundation. He is a very supporting man who already has given opportunities to many MF members. The work in the institute is mainly project-orientated. It is necessary to read about Chilean social and economic problems beforehand to understand objectives of the institute.
