I have been thinking to add a forum to my [Japanese business ] site (its actually a personal site) but maybe a Wiki would be a lot more interesting. My guess though is that it takes a lot of work to edit the changes people make to ensure that a Wiki is not used for anti-social purposes. Is it possible to add a Wiki to an existing HTML site without allowing people to change the existing HTML content? IMHO this would be an exciting evolution for most HTML sites but I would want to limit the 'anything goes' piece to just one small area of the site as opposed to the whole thing.
Some WikiWiki software allows one to restrict editing to certain set of pages, important pages can be "locked" to read-only. It is also possible to "embed" Wiki-generated page into existing pages. You can check out TaviWiki: http://tavi.sourceforge.net/, MediaWiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki.
